Baby Zoo

On Sunday after church, we packed up the car and headed to the coast. Our first stop was at a zoo/backyard full of exotic animals. It was very strange. Rylie had a blast. All of the animals were behind regular chain link fencing. You could easily climb it and get inside with the critters. And the zoo had everything-a zebra, a giraffe, a porcupine, turtles, monkeys, horses, lions, bears, tigers, panthers, snakes, lizards, and even a camel. But seriously, it felt as if you were walking around in someone's backyard. It was quite the experience. Rylie thoroughly enjoyed herself, though. The zoo in Asheboro has all of the animals in their natural habitats, which is great for the animals, but Rylie has a hard time finding a buffalo in 75 acres of "plains". This was neat in that Rylie was able to feed the horses and zebras, poke her hand through the fence and get her fingers snaped at by a turtle (the poking did happen, but the snapping didn't...Grandpa has quick reflexes!), or get a good up close look at a camel. It's definitely somewhere I'd take her again as she learns more and more about animals.
We had told Rylie that we were going to the zoo and the beach (wow what a day!), and she was VERY ready to go. She had her Dora hat (which she hardly ever parts with these days...what a great gift from daddy!) and her bag of beach toys! If you click on the picture, you can see a bigger version, and it's worth it because Rylie's face is hilarious!
I had no idea that a porcupine was so HUGE! This thing was the size of a medium sized dog!

She walked around like she owned the place!
